Botox® and Dysport®

Botulinum toxin is a pharmaceutically produced protein that has been used in the medical industry since the 1980s . Botox injections are very effective at treating and preventing the wrinkles between the eyebrows, forehead and around the eyes. Botox works by creating a lengthy but not permanent interruption in the communication between nerves and muscles.  Botox injections are safe and painless. Full results can be expected within two weeks of treatment and can be expected to last for three months although this can be longer with repeated treatments.

The primary risks associated with the use of Botulinum toxin are cosmetic. Each individual needs to be carefully assessed to provide optimal results. Follow-up appointments are also customary for further optimization. Strict adherence to aftercare instructions has been shown to reduce the risk of cosmetic complications. Accurate estimation of costs can only be achieved through consultation.

Key uses and benefits:

Softening of frown lines, worry lines and crow’s feet. Regular treatments can be preventative and  the goal is to create a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.

Chronic migraine headaches can be effectively treated with the injection of Botox, whilst chronic headaches are a complex medical condition, treatment with Botox has been shown to reduce the frequency and severity of chronic headaches.

TemporoMandibular Joint Disorder can be a disabling condition that often responds very well to effective dosing with Botox.

Hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating can also be managed with Botox as it not only interrupts the message between nerve and muscles but also between nerve and sweat glands.

What to expect

Each aesthetic journey is unique. Expectations and budgets vary considerably, and the consultation process is invaluable in creating a manageable and individual treatment plan.

Understanding the treatment plan and budget is essential before commencing any treatment.

Treatments with Botox usually take 5-10 minutes to perform.

Avoidance of substances that promote bleeding can be helpful to minimize bruising. Alcohol, anti-inflammatories ( such as aspirin and ibuprofen), vitamins, antioxidants, fish oil, and omega-3 products should be avoided for up to 72 hours before the treatment if minimizing bruising is an important concern.

Exercise should be avoided for 24 hours after treatment. Remaining upright for 6 hours following botulinum toxin injections is advisable. Avoidance of make-up products for 24-28 hours is advisable.

In the majority of cases no downtime is to be expected, and an immediate return to the workplace or social engagements is common.
